In the official teaser for the new Epix series Rogue Heroes, it appears that all is fair in love and war, but largely war. Fans of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders who are still reeling from the show’s April cancellation will be pleased to hear that Knight is back in the director’s chair with another blood and thunder production. The video depicts the formation of the Special Air Service (SAS), an elite unit formed by the Allies during WWII to aid in the war effort. It includes brief biographies of the key men (and one key lady) who contributed to the team’s success and cohesiveness.
The trailer explains the formation of the secret task force and the lengths they went to get the job done to the tune of AC/ultimate DC’s pump-up song, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.” A slew of A-listers has signed on to feature in the new series, including Connor Swindells (Sex Education, Barbie), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde), and Jack O’Connell (Skins, Lady Chatterley’s Lover). Stuart Campbell (Baptiste), Theo Barklem-Biggs, Corin Silva, Bobby Schofield, Moritz Jahn, Ralph Davis, Arthur Orcier, Virgile Bramly, David Alcock, Tom Hygreck, Jordy Lagbre, Paul Boche, Anthony Calf, Ian Davies, Adran Lukis, and Isobel Laidler are all set to appear in the film. BAFTA winner Jason Watkins (The Crown) will also be The series is based on Ben Macintyre’s best-selling novel of the same name, and is billed as a dramatised depiction of a real tale. Knight not only conceived of the programme but also writes for it, with Tom Shankland (The Serpent, The Missing) as the helm.
Along with Kudos on EPIX and Nebulastar on BBC, Stephen Smallwood has joined the production team as a producer. The executive producers are Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Emma Kingsman-Lloyd of Kudos, and Tommy Bulfin of the BBC. We haven’t seen any new visuals for Rogue Heroes in over a year, so this clip is a refreshing peek at one of Knight’s recent works. The series, titled SAS: Rogue Heroes, premiered on Epix and will also air in the UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. A firm date for the film’s release has not yet been announced, but the team is hoping to hit theatres this autumn.
