Scream Factory has released on 4K for the first time a number of iconic horror films, including entries in well-known franchises like the Child’s Play films and the Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002), as well as stand-alone pictures like John Carpenter’s The Fog and the 1982 Cat People remake. The original Carrie, another Stephen King movie remake, is receiving a 4K Ultra HD makeover. The 4K Ultra HD release of Carrie, directed by Brian De Palma (Scarface), is set for December 13. Steelbook and special bundles with pins, posters, and more are available for pre-order on the Scream Factory website until the release date. There are three CDs in the updated set; the first has a 4K Ultra HD version of the film, while the other two highlight 1080p Blu-ray and 720p DVD renditions.
The third disc has a wealth of bonus material beyond the main film itself, including behind-the-scenes video, cast and crew interviews, and an exploration of Carrie the Musical, now infamous as one of Broadway’s shortest-lived musicals. An adaptation of King’s best-selling novel, the film features Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie in Oscar-nominated roles. Carrie White (Spacek), a high school outcast who lacks self-assurance, friends, and knowledge of the depth of her hidden telekinetic talents, is the protagonist of this ultimate vengeance fantasy. Once a timid teenager, she unleashes her “special gift” and causes chaos at the school prom when her crazy mother (Laurie) and vicious peers push her to the breaking point. Thanks to this updated version, viewers may experience the infamous cinematic rush of blood, vengeance, and gore in all its graphic brilliance.
In addition to John Travolta and Amy Irving, the legendary William Katt and P.J. Soles also feature in this classic horror film. The horror genre was irrevocably changed by the 1976 film Carrie, which was remade with Chlo Grace Moretz in 2013. This new and improved edition includes new interviews with not only De Palma, Spacek, and Laurie, but also with other members of the cast and crew, such as screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen, director of photography Mario Tosi, editor Paul Hirsch, and casting director Harriet B. Helberg. In a special segment fittingly named “Bucket of Blood,” we meet the maestro Pino Donaggio and take a look back at the filming sites.
Fans can pre-order the Carrie upgrade in 4K Ultra HD for $35.98–$130.98 right now.
