According to Deadline, Michael Waldron will pen the script for the upcoming Marvel Studios film, Avengers: Secret Wars. Secret Wars and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty were both part of Marvel’s Phases 4–6 announcement at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed the successful Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for the studio, will helm The Kang Dynasty, which will be written by Jeff Loveness and shot simultaneously with Secret Wars. Deadline reports that interviews for the position took place in September and that Waldron, who is highly trusted by the studio, was considered the frontrunner despite the fact that there were many other talented writers in the running.
Loki, which Waldron produced for Disney+, was met with critical acclaim and widespread fan adoration, leading to the show’s renewal for a second season, which is now in the works. Among Marvel Studios’ most successful films after the epidemic was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, on which Waldron worked as a writer. Since its debut in May, the film has earned over $950 million throughout the world. Waldron’s trust in Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is evidenced by the fact that he will also be working with Lucasfilm to conceive and write Feige’s secret Star Wars project.
Waldron worked as a writer on the NBC programme Community and as a producer on the smash hit Adult Swim series, Rick & Morty, before being hired by Marvel to work on Loki.
In response to a request from Deadline, Marvel Studios declined to comment on the secrecy surrounding the plots of its next Avengers flicks.
Aside from the obvious, the current Avengers films appear to have been planned by Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. In the season one finale of Loki, Waldron introduced the character as ‘He Who Remains,’ a variety of Kang whose murder at the hands of another Loki variant, Sylvie, triggers a series of catastrophes across universes. Phase 6, the final part of the new MCU arc called “The Multiverse Saga,” is likewise slated to conclude with these two films. Although a director has not been appointed for Avengers: Secret Wars, the film is still set for a worldwide release on November 8, 2025.
