Now is as good a time as any to revisit or begin your introduction to the original Blade film adaptations before the Daywalker makes his official MCU entrance in 2023. Despite the fact that HBO Max no longer features the trilogy starring Wesley Snipes as the titular vampire hunter, CBR claims that Hulu will add all three of the original films to its streaming list in October, just in time for Huluween. With the summer departure of HBO Max subscribers, the streaming service severed its final remaining connection to Marvel by removing the Blade trilogy at the end of August. Blade, Blade 2, and Blade: Trinity will be added to Hulu’s fall programming on October 1, giving fans another chance to witness Snipes in his action-packed role as the half-vampire, half-human with a chip on his shoulder from Marvel Comics.
Blade, released in 1998, is widely regarded as one of the first Marvel films to spark an interest in superhero film adaptations, and while reviewers were originally divided due to the picture’s gratuitous leather and blood, moviegoers embraced the film. The general public became enamoured with the vampire subculture after seeing Stephen Norrington’s magnificent film, which took viewers inside blood-drenched nightclubs and introduced them to the legend behind the vampire subculture. Snipes played the Daywalker with stoicism and torment, and he was joined solely by his faithful comrade Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), who kicked vampire butt and took names.
Director Guillermo del Toro, then relatively new to the film industry, took over the reins for Blade 2 and dove further into the vampires’ ancient culture and their motivation for wanting to be the world’s greatest power. A sour aftertaste was left by David S. Goyer’s third Blade film, Trinity, which starred Ryan Reynolds before he became Deadpool. The gloomy neo-goth look was ditched in favour of clumsy one-liners that were so 2004. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, said in 2012 that Marvel has repurchased Blade’s rights. It was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019 that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will be replacing Michael Parks as Blade. Production on the relaunch will finally get underway in November, a full month after Marvel Studios officially enters Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
No information about the narrative has been released as of yet, but award-winning actors Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) and Aaron Pierre (Mufasa: The Lion King) are expected to appear with Ali. The most current update on the remake is that director Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) is leaving the project. According to reports, the film’s director stepped down owing to schedule issues, however, he will continue to serve as an executive producer. Screenwriter Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen) was replaced by Beau DeMayo (Moon Knight, X-Men ’97), while Blade’s Gene Colan and Marv Wolfman (who both worked on the original trilogy) also contributed to the film. On October 1, you can see all three films of the original Blade trilogy on Hulu. The new Blade film is still scheduled to open on November 3, 2023.
