Now that October has begun, it’s time to start rewatching all of your favourite slasher flicks in preparation for Halloween. The various streaming platforms and networks have been revealing their terrifying Halloween schedules over the past few weeks. Now that HBO Max’s 2022 Halloween library has been unveiled, there’s sure to be something there for any hungry horror enthusiast. On October 1st, the streamer will begin their “House of Halloween” promotion. On their Halloween highlight page, you may find timeless favourites including The Exorcist, The Shining, Young Frankenstein, The Fly (1986), Beetlejuice, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Conjuring.
The event will showcase current classics such as Scooby-Doo (2002), Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride, and Malignant alongside Robert Eggers’ The Witch, The Blair Witch Project, and Scooby-Doo (2002). All of the Nightmare on Elm Street films (except for The Dream Master), all of the Final Destination films (except for the fourth instalment), all of The Omen films (except for the 2006 remake), and all three films in The Conjuring trilogy will be present at the forthcoming event. The streamer’s TV library will feature classics like Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog with contemporary teen favourites like The Vampire Diaries.
In case you can’t make up your mind what to see, the event’s door system is returning in an updated form. Last year, audiences could pick a horror film or TV show at random from among three categories: “Not Scary,” “Scary,” and “Very Scary.” This year, tarot cards will be included to provide viewers with even more guidance. There will be six different cards to pick from this year. You get a horror comedy title if you pick “The Fool,” a fantasy/magical one if you pick “The Magician,” a possession/demon flick if you pick “The Devil,” a slasher flick if you pick “The Executioner,” a romantic horror flick if you pick “The Lover,” and a creature movie if you pick “The Creature.” It’s nice to see this feature, which helped elevate HBO Max to the ranks of the top Halloween streaming services in 2017, returning in an improved form this year.
These tarot cards are like a bag of tricks and treat on Halloween; you never know what you’re going to get. The Halloween season has always been a good time to check off a few scary movies from your watch list and deepen your understanding of the horror genre. HBO Max is likely to be a need this season because of its extensive library of outstanding films, which includes both horror classics like Night of the Living Dead and more recent works like It (2017). On October 1st, the House of Halloween will open.
