Monster movie fans can roar into Beast, starring Idris Elba, when it hits digital on October 7 and Blu-ray and DVD on October 11 from Universal Home Entertainment. There has been no announcement about the release date of the film’s 4K Blu-ray edition. The release of Beast includes a plethora of supplemental materials, allowing viewers to relive the chilling dread of a man-eating lion without leaving the safety of their own homes. The film will contain a never-before-seen deleted scene, as well as featurettes like “Man vs. Lion: The Final Battle,” which examines the climactic showdown between Elba and the movie’s scary lion.
Also included in the release are the featurettes “Making It Real: The Wounds,” which provide details about the gruesome prosthetics used in the film, and “Creating the Beast,” which examines the creation of the film’s nemesis. Filming in the Beast’s Territory, Family Bond: The Cast of Beast, and “A Lion’s Pride,” a documentary that delves into lion poaching and the struggle to rescue the animals, are some of the other featurettes included. Early this summer, Beast was released in theatres to generally favourable reviews, with particular acclaim going to the film’s strong action sequences and performances as well as some criticism going to the film’s unoriginal narrative elements.
Critics gave the picture a 69% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences gave it a 77% rating. Fans of this summer’s creature feature can now relive the chills and thrills of the film with its release on digital and Blu-ray formats. Baltasar Kormákur, who directed the critically acclaimed survival picture Everest, also oversaw this film. Sharlto Copley (District 9), Iyana Halley (Wayward), and Leah Sava Jeffries co-star with Elba in this picture (Faith Under Fire). Kormákur not only helms the film but also produces it alongside James Lopez and Will Packer. Writing the film’s script is Ryan Engle. The digital release of Beast is scheduled for October 7, while the Blu-ray release is set for October 11.
