The remake of The Crow, which seemed like it would never come in for a landing, is now complete; filming was recently wrapped. The Prague Reporter, published in the city where the production has been in residence for the past 10 weeks, has the story. The film used Prague’s many historic sites, such as the Rudolfinum music hall, for location filming. It also filmed at the brand-new Penzing Studios outside of Munich, Germany, and settled in Bavaria to fine-tune its digital assets and visual effects. The next Rupert Sanders film is a remake of Alex Proyas’s cult hit from 1994; both films are faithful adaptations of the James O’Barr comic book series of the same name, which began publication in 1989.
The Crow is a tale of rebirth and retribution, following the protagonist Eric Draven after he is brutally and unjustly murdered. A passing crow finds the man’s body and gives him a second chance at life, empowering him to defend the defenceless and exact vengeance on his attackers. The revival will star Bill Skarsgrd (It) as the title character, with Danny Huston (Angel Has Fallen) and FKA Twigs (Honey Boy), among others. Produced by Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, John Jencks, and Edward R. Pressman, with a screenplay written by Zach Baylin (King Richard), who was nominated for an Academy Award. The tragic death on the set of Brandon Lee, son of famed martial arts hero and actor Bruce Lee, cemented the 1994 film adaptation’s place in film history.
On March 31st, 1993, one of the final filming days, Lee was shot and killed when a pistol intended to fire blanks instead had live ammunition. The unfortunate death of the promising young actor resulted from the impact of the firearm being shot. There were only a few days left of filming, so it was decided that Lee’s body double would film the rest of his sequences. After its first theatrical release, the picture gained a devoted fanbase, which led to the production of three sequels and a television spinoff with new actors. The Crow, a reimagining of the legendary tale of one man’s dance with revenge, finally soars into cinemas after over 30 years, and we can’t wait to watch it. Now that principal photography has wrapped, we can perhaps get an indication of when the picture will be released.
