This has been quite a year for Miles Teller. He hosted the inaugural episode of Season 48 of Saturday Night Live, and it’s little wonder why after the success of Top Gun: Maverick. A very remarkable incident, indeed. Fans of Teller, who became famous in films like Whiplash and the Divergent series, want to see him since he is continually developing as an actor, thus it came as no surprise that he was a standout in the debut of Saturday Night Live.
Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, featured Tom Cruise as Maverick, a fighter pilot with a craving for speed, and was the subject of much of his monologue.
The film, in which Teller played Goose’s (Anthony Edwards) son Rooster, was a smashing success. In his speech, Teller mentioned that it’s rare to develop a film that appeals to both the military and the homosexual community (Top Gun: Maverick features a homoerotic sequence on the beach). Football, not volleyball, is the featured sport this time around.
Teller’s obvious enthusiasm for Saturday Night Live was the best part of his monologue. In fact, he was such a lifelong devotee that he even brought a DVD to prove it. Teller and his sisters recreated a classic SNL skit in their living room and filmed it for posterity. Do you recall Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri as the Spartan cheerleading squad? Oteri’s role, Teller did in his own house. It established the tone for the evening and was hilarious to watch as they pretended to be on the show.
We were all aware of how much this meant to Teller and how long he had awaited it. It’s the element that elevates a good SNL show to the level of a great one. When we consider the significance of this to the host, we see that Adds a whole new dimension of enjoyment.
Overall, the programme was entertaining since it featured Teller seemingly having a good time in several routines. Even though there weren’t any particularly memorable skits from this episode, it was still fairly funny, and I’d love to see Teller host again.
