There is now production on another instalment in the American Pie series of sexy romantic comedies. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor and director Sujata Day’s original idea will serve as the basis for Universal’s upcoming picture. The new romantic comedy is being created by Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production division of Universal Filmed Entertainment, and will be a continuation of the successful franchise. The day will be on board as the writer, and her original idea will be used for the picture, but neither the narrative nor the actors nor a release date have been announced as of yet. Her screenplay has been called a “new approach.” Stardom in the film business was where Day first made her name for herself. Day co-starred in Issa Rae’s The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl before starring on HBO’s Insecure as We Got Y’all employee Sarah.
Her acting career began in 2003, with roles in series including Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Russians in the City of Angels; she has since been in Four Samosas (2022) and For the Hits (2019). (2021). Definition Please was Day’s first foray into the world of feature filmmaking, and it stars Rajan as Monica, a former spelling bee winner who tries to reconnect with her estranged brother (Day). The comedy-drama film was purchased by ARRAY (which was formed by director Ava DuVernay) and made accessible on Netflix.
The film won Day several accolades, including the grand jury award for best narrative feature at the San Francisco CAAM Fest, best feature at the Indian Festival of Cincinnati, best narrative feature at the Next Generation Indie Film Awards, outstanding directorial debut at the South Asian Film Festival of America, and a special jury award for Fresh Narrative Voice at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. The day was featured on NBCUniversal News Group’s Inspiring America series for the film’s examination of race and mental illness. Away from Definition Please, Day also has directing expertise, and she has been widely recognised for the impact she has made as a television show director. The This is My Story YouTube series, directed by Day and narrated by LeVar Burton, focuses on individuals’ actual encounters with prejudice.
Day has been a fellow at Sundance Institute’s Sundance Lab, an influencer at the Sundance Film Festival, and an ambassador for HBO’s Visionaries programme. She is the first person to ever receive the Women Making Waves award from Women’s Voices Now for her efforts. The first film in the American Pie series was released in 1999, and the series has since spanned many years. More than $235 million was made throughout the world by the coming-of-age picture directed by Paul Weitz and co-produced by Adam Herz. Jim (Jason Biggs), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Oz (Chris Klein), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), and Stifler (Seann William Scott) are five male students at East Great Falls High who establish a pact to lose their virginity before they graduate.
In addition to Alyson Hannigan and Natasha Lyonne, the original picture also starred Mena Suvari, Tara Reid, Eugene Levy, Shannon Elizabeth, and Jennifer Coolidge. After the success of the first American Pie in 2000, three further sequels were made over the next decade: American Pie 2 (2001), American Wedding (2003), and American Reunion (2012).
