Just a few weeks before its premiere on Apple TV+, the new trailer for Raymond & Ray, starring Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke, has been published. The film Raymond & Ray follows the lives of McGregor and Hawke, who portray biological brothers. The death of the brothers’ abusive father frees them from the weight of his shadow, which they had carried around with them their whole lives. As of the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, the film has officially premiered. In the first moments of the new trailer, Raymond breaks the news to his brother about their father’s death. While the preview shows Raymond trying to make peace with their late father, Ray isn’t very saddened by the news of his passing. Afterwards, the trailer shows the brothers excavating their father’s grave, discovering his cheap wooden coffin, and interacting with other members of the family, including one of their father’s new loves and their third brother.
The trailer goes deeply into the film’s emotional core, focusing on the process by which one overcomes loss and sadness. In the final line in the trailer, Ray says to his brother, “It’s going to take a whole lot more than a hole in the ground to get the old guy out of your head.” The film’s writer-director is Rodrigo Garca, whose previous credits include Albert Nobbs and In Treatment. The cast also includes Vondie Curtis Hall, Maribel Verd (The Flash), Sophie Okonedo, Todd Louiso, Tom Bower, and a number of others in addition to McGregor and Hawke. Award-winning director Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) is producing the picture alongside Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn through their company Mockingbird Pictures. The film’s executive producers are Gaby Rodriguez and Shea Kammer.
Together with Mockingbird Pictures and Cuarón’s Esperanto Film Limited, Apple Studios will be producing the film. On October 21, Raymond & Ray will premiere on Apple TV+.
Synopsis
