‘My Best Friend’s Exorcism’ Synopsis, Cast, Release Date & Everything you need to know

We have an exclusive preview of the forthcoming horror film My Best Friend’s Exorcism, which follows best friends Abby (Elsie Fisher) and Gretchen (Amiah Miller) as they take a spooky late-night stroll through a possibly haunted building. They eagerly enter the eerie building, only to immediately discover they might not be alone there. Beginning in the woods on their approach to the building, the two buddies in the clip named “Mr Owl” encounter the titular owl. Abby is hesitant to go in at first, but Gretchen gives her a pep talk about how much she and Abby have a love of all things terrifying, and so she eventually gives in and goes in.

It’s immediately unsettling as they go inside the building. The building seems more at home in the Upside Down from Stranger Things, what with the brilliant orange light streaming in through the window and the shady, dilapidated atmosphere. Even though it looks little from the outside, when Gretchen reaches inside one of the rooms, it’s clear that it’s considerably larger on the inside than it appears. The pair is then alarmed by an unearthly sound from farther within.

Despite Gretchen’s insistence that their friend Margaret (Rachel Ogechi Kanu) must have beaten them to the area to terrify them, they can tell it is neither a human nor animal voice. They resolve to stay put in order to scare her away rather than leave. Mixing classic 80s horror with an acid trip, My Best Friend’s Exorcism is set during the height of the Satanic Panic in 1988. Written by New York Times best-selling novelist Grady Hendrix, it tells the story of a group of friends from a private Christian school in the bible belt who spend a night skinny-dipping and using drugs at a lakeside cabin.

Gretchen disappears after their tour of the haunted building, and when they locate her, she’s not in the best mood. The devil possessing Gretchen must be sent back to Hell by her closest friend Abby. This throwback to the ’80s is adapted by Jenna Lamia from Hendrix’s novel and directed by Damon Thomas (Killing Eve). The movie has been in the works since 2018 when Endeavor content saw an opportunity to cash in on the novel’s lighter brand of horror. Abby seeks the aid of Christian Lemon, a mall exorcist, who is played by Christopher Lowell. Kanu and Cathy Ang round out Fisher and Miller’s network of friends.
As of the 30th of September, you may watch My Best Friend’s Exorcism on Prime Video.
