King of the Apes Casts The Witcher’s Freya Allan

Now that the title and lead actor for the next film in the Planet of the Apes franchise have been announced, the franchise is entering a new era. Reportedly taking place a long time after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, the dramatic end to the previous trilogy, the next picture, now dubbed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is expected to be released in 2021. Deadline claims that the next film will star Freya Allan, who previously starred in The Witcher series on Netflix. Aside from the fact that she would be portraying a human, no details regarding her role have been disclosed. Owen Teague (It) will play the main ape, and she plays with Peter Macon (The Orville).

Along with the announcement of a new cast member, the first look image for the upcoming reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise has been unveiled, including concept art of a simian on horseback in a dystopian landscape with a big bird perched on its wrist. One of the most recognisable and illustrious science fiction film series of all time, “Planet of the Apes” is also an indelible part of our studio’s history.

As Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios, put it, “We are honoured to carry on the series’ history of inventive, thought-provoking filmmaking with ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,’ and we can’t wait to share Wes’ great vision for this new chapter with viewers in 2024.” The film’s screenplay is written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison, while Wes Ball, director of The Maze Runner films, will be in charge of production. Jaffa and Silver will not only co-write the film’s script alongside Joe Hartwick Jr. and Jason Reed, but they will also serve as producers on the movie.

The sequel will include Peter Chernin and JennoTopping as executive producers. The Planet of the Apes series, which dates back to 1968 and has seen several reboots and re-imaginings over the years, most recently with the release of Rising of the Planet of the Apes, which starred Andy Serkis in the role of Caesar. Caeser is dead and mankind is dwindling, so the events of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes may both reboot the series and expose viewers to the planet first seen in the 1968 picture. There is still no set release date for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as production is still in its early stages.
