Deadline reports that Taron Egerton and Sofia Carson have been cast in Netflix’s forthcoming drama Carry On. Carson starred in the film Purple Heart. In addition to reuniting Harder They Fall breakout star Danielle Deadwyler with Jason Bateman, the streaming service is also bringing back the rest of the ensemble cast. Spanish-American filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra is in charge of this project. TJ Fixman (Ratchet & Clank, Popeye) penned the film’s original draught, while Michael Green (Kings, Blade Runner 2049) did the final rewrite.
In this thriller, we follow rookie TSA agent Ethan Kopek as he is blackmailed by an anonymous traveller into allowing a potentially lethal item to board an aircraft on Christmas Day. Details concerning specific positions are kept secret. Carson, fresh off the success of Purple Hearts on the streaming service, was quickly added. In the film, she portrayed Cassie, a burgeoning singer who marries Nicholas Galitzine’s character, Luke, a soon-to-deploy Marine. She not only sang on the film’s original score but also co-wrote it and acted as an executive producer.
In its first week on Netflix, the film ranked first everywhere in the world. With almost 220 million hours seen in its first 28 days, it quickly rose to become one of the Top 10 most-watched films of all time on the streaming service. Bateman’s tenure on the streaming service’s Ozarks just ended, while Egerton is a household name thanks to his work in the Kingsman film series. Collet-DC Serra’s Comics superhero film Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson as the title anti-hero, has yet to be released. Warner Bros. is putting a lot of faith in this project to resurrect the DCEU, and the collaboration between Collet-Serra and Johnson has already generated a lot of buzzes.
The director’s filmography also includes 2009’s Orphan and The Shallows. Thanks to the abundance of skilled hands both behind and in front of the camera, Netflix may have another blockbuster on its hands. Amblin’s president of production, Holly Bario, will be in charge of the thriller on the studio’s behalf, and it is the first production to emerge out of Amblin’s overall arrangement with Netflix. While Scott Greenberg, Seth William Meier, and Brian Williams will serve as executive producers under Dylan Clark Productions.
