This new teaser for The Watcher, the next limited series from famous TV writer Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), premiered during Netflix’s worldwide fan event Tudum, which is currently streaming. The couple at 657 Boulevard is continually being watched and invaded in this video, causing them a great deal of fear. But because of their snooping and suspicious neighbours, everyone in town is a potential perpetrator, leading to anxiety as they strive to identify the culprit.
The new trailer and October 13 release date were both confirmed by Netflix. This places the show squarely in the thick of the Halloween season. In the preview’s first few seconds, life for the Brannock family appears to be picture-perfect. They moved into a beautiful new home in a peaceful area, and a kind neighbour even left them a note to welcome them and provide some background on the place.
But as they go through the letter, things take a nasty turn when they realise that someone is always monitoring them, and an unknown voice delivers the final sentence, announcing that their torture has just begun. The family’s paranoia escalates as they worry that this menacing outsider is watching their every move. In the trailer, practically all of the Brannocks’ neighbours are depicted keeping an eye on them, either via the use of binoculars or by telling the family directly that they are keeping a watch on them. Sleazy real estate agent Karen Calhoun (Jennifer Coolidge) advises them to sell while others in town tell them to get out while they still can and the cops dismiss the continuous threats in the mail as a joke.
In spite of the fact that their nameless tormentor has invaded their home and made their lives a living misery, the Brannocks still refuse to leave. What’s worse is that the limited series is based on a genuine tale, about a real property in New Jersey that a couple bought in 2014 but had to flee after receiving threatening messages. No one ever identified the true Watcher. Coolidge, Mia Farrow, Margo Martindale, Terry Kinney, Joe Mantello, Richard Kind, Noma Dumezweni, Christopher McDonald, Michael Nouri, Isabel Gravitt, Henry Hunter Hall, and Luke David Blumm round out the star-studded cast as the couple whose lives is devastated by the Watcher. Murphy and his regular creative partner, Ian Brennan, devised the show (Scream Queens).
They’ve worked together on shows like Glee and Halston, and they just reunited for Netflix’s new documentary series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Both are executive producers alongside Alexis Martin Woodall, Bryan Unkeless, Eric Newman, Paris Barclay, Ariel Schulman, Henry Joost, and Scoop Wasserstein. There will be a premiere of The Watcher on Netflix on October 13.
