Treasure hunt stories are a staple in literature and popular culture. However, when Netflix’s Outer Banks was aired in 2020, the show was not much a treasure hunt narrative but rather an escape pod for millions imprisoned in the clutches of a pandemic. In the years after its initial airing, the adolescent drama has gained a passionate fan base. Following the news of a third season and the addition of new cast members, Netflix debuted the season’s first teaser during the Tudum festival it hosts online. Please enjoy your stay at Poguelandia.
All My Dreams by The Heavy Heavy plays in the background as the trailer for Season 4 begins. The first sight we are treated to is one of a pristine paradise.
After Season 2, the Pogues moved to an isolated island, and it looks like everything is going swimmingly for them there. There are palm trees, of course, and JJ (Rudy Pankow) has put up a sign to let people know where they are. Although, like with most happy moments on film, it won’t continue forever. “My father always claimed nothing good comes easily,” John B. (Chase Stokes) adds. Nothing of value is provided. I guess the issue is, how far are you ready to go to ensure victory? Is there any length you wouldn’t go to in order to obtain your prize? About two-thirds of the way through the voiceover, the tempo of the teaser picks up.
Multiple altercations take place, including a fistfight in the back of a moving van. Just because the teenagers are still alive does not imply they have started taking any safer risks in their search for the loot. And yes…there is a huge leap of faith that would do Ezio and the Assassins proud. Season 2 left us on a bit of a cliffhanger as the Pogues were in pretty desperate straits. But with Cleo’s (Carlicia Grant) assistance, the crew made it out, and now they appear to be in paradise.
Both Sarah (Madelyn Cline) and John B. were shocked to learn that their dads, who had been thought to be dead, were actually very much alive in the series finale. Joining the previously listed members of the cast for Season 3 are Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Austin North, Drew Starkey, Charles Esten, Andy McQueen, Fiona Palomo and Lou Ferrigno Jr. Big John Rutledge, John B.’s deceased father, is also revived and made an appearance (Charles Halford). And then there’s also Brian Stapf, Chelle Ramos, CC Castillo, E. Roger Mitchell, and Julia Antonelli. Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke are not only the show’s creators but also its showrunners and executive producers.
Outer Banks Season 3 is targeted at a release window of 2023.
