In the midst of TUDUM 2022, Netflix’s Global Fan Event, which features news and updates on several of the streaming service’s planned projects, one of the platform’s biggest programmes also got fresh details about its upcoming comeback. The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill, is set to return to TV in the summer of 2023. To make the announcement, Cavill took the TUDUM stage. Production resumed in late July 2022 after series lead Cavill tested positive for COVID, and finally finished earlier this month in September 2022. This was the latest setback for the show, which had already been delayed from its 2020 premiere date because of the COVID-19 epidemic and was in the midst of filming Season 2.
Production wrapped earlier this month, so hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too long to witness the continuation of the tale after Season 2 ended on a massive cliffhanger when it aired at the end of last year. The third season will begin right after the dramatic conclusion of the second, in which it was revealed that the White Flame is actually Duny, alias Emhyr Var Emreis, Ciri’s father. At the end of the season, Yeneffer and Geralt will take Ciri to the Thanedd Island fortress Aretuza to learn more about the girl’s extraordinary powers and the extent of her abilities, but they will also find themselves in the middle of the island’s political conflict, which will ultimately lead to the Thanedd coup.
Season four will be based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fourth Witcher novel, and the second in the series, Time of Contempt. Seasons 1 and 2 of the fantasy show The Witcher are already available to view in their entirety on Netflix, with Season 3 scheduled for a Summer 2023 release.
