During the Tudum event, Netflix debuted the first image from El Elegido, the renamed comic book version of American Jesus by Peter Gross and Mark Millar. While Miller spoke about the series’ accurate adaption, Dianna Agron and Tenoch Huerta introduced viewers to Jodie and his pals. In this two-minute movie, we see the actors and crew working in Mexico to create the show. The video also gives an idea of the show’s visual style and takes viewers on a tour of the different sets where El Elegido is being filmed. Miller praised El Elegido, saying that unlike other superhero IPs, which rely on computer-generated imagery, the show’s creators have made some clever artistic decisions and filmed the show in a way that makes the actual world seem “supernatural.”
English and Spanish speakers will be able to enjoy the show. The show’s co-showrunners and executive producers are brothers Everardo and Leopoldo Gout (Luke Cage, Sacred Lies, Molly’s Game, Instinct). Furthermore, Gout will serve as the show’s director. Miller continued his description of the novel, calling it “very apocalyptic” and disclosing that “the story is about a 12-year-old child, Jodie, who finds out that he’s the returning Jesus Christ and it is all about a mother who flees away with her son because he is in enormous danger.”
In the series, which has been in development since April of this year, we witness Jodie and his pals as he comes to grips with his Jesus-like talents to “change water into wine, help the handicapped walk, and possibly, even raise the dead!” Jodie only wants to be treated like any other teenager, but there are others who would use him because of his abilities. By far, El Elegido has the most exciting idea and promising cast.
Its release date has not been disclosed as of yet.
