Deadline reports that Taron Egerton’s Killing Eve co-star Sofia Carson has been cast in Netflix’s forthcoming drama Carry On. In addition to reuniting Harder They Fall breakout star Danielle Deadwyler with Jason Bateman, the streaming service is also bringing back the entire cast of the film. The movie is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, a Spanish-American filmmaker. TJ Fixman (Ratchet & Clank, Popeye) wrote the original script for the film, while Michael Green (Kings, Blade Runner 2049) is responsible for the most recent script revisions.
The protagonist, a young TSA employee named Ethan Kopek, is blackmailed by an anonymous traveller into allowing a potentially lethal item to board an aircraft on Christmas Day. The specifics of everyone’s assigned tasks are kept secret. Carson, fresh off the success of Purple Hearts, in which she portrayed Cassie, an aspiring singer who accepts to marry a soon-to-deploy Marine, Luke (played by Nicholas Galitzine), seems to have been added to Netflix without delay. She did more than just sing on the film’s original score; she also co-wrote it and acted as an executive producer.
The film’s number one opening day worldwide broke several Netflix records. With almost 220 million hours seen in its first 28 days, it quickly became one of the Top 10 most-watched films in the history of the streaming service. Bateman’s tenure on the streaming service’s Ozarks just ended, while Egerton is a household name thanks to his work in the Kingsman film series. The Harder They Fall, Parallel, and Jane and Emma are just a few of the movies that Deadwyler has produced. Been most recent film, Chinonye Chukwu’s Till, has her mentioned in this year’s Oscars discussions.
She plays Mamie Till Mobley, who fought tirelessly for justice after her son, Emmett Till, was killed in 1995 while visiting his relatives in Mississippi, in a film that will have its global debut at the forthcoming New York Film Festival and open in theatres on October 14. Collet-DC Serra’s superhero film Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson as the title anti-hero, is set to be released soon. According to the buzz around the project, the collaboration between Collet-Serra and Johnson has the potential to reinvigorate the DCEU. The director’s resume also includes movies like “Orphan” and “The Shallows,” both from 2009.
Netflix may have another record-breaker on its hands since it has assembled an impressive cast and crew. Amblin’s president of production, Holly Bario, will be in charge of the thriller on the studio’s behalf. The film is the first to result from Amblin’s overall partnership with Netflix. But Scott Greenberg and Seth William Meier, through their company Dylan Clark Productions, will serve as executive producers with Brian Williams.
The streamer has not yet announced a release date.
