There are now more Holmes players than Sherlock. Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown), London’s newest adolescent sleuth, is ready to launch her own detective business after fending off her sister’s attempts to make her a respectable lady. All Londoners need to do is take her seriously, and the city will benefit greatly. As part of Netflix’s star-studded TUDUM event, a new teaser for Enola Holmes 2 has been published, giving viewers a glimpse at the riddles that the little detective will have to solve in the sequel. The trailer opens with a depiction of Enola’s early challenges in establishing her private investigation firm.
The fact that her older, more famous detective brother is named Sherlock adds insult to injury (Henry Cavill). At last, her luck improves when she is hired to locate the missing sister of a young woman. Whatever Enola’s feelings on the matter, her efforts will bring her face to face with her friend and possible love interest, the charming Viscount Tewksbury (Louis Partridge). Sherlock, whose own case is proving to be so taxing that he has resorted to kicking signs, creating enormous conspiracy boards, and wallowing in self-pity while playing the violin, is not alone in this struggle.
In the first film, he took up guardianship of Enola from their brother Mycroft (Sam Claflin), but in the sequel, it appears that his big brother instincts and his desire to let Enola do what she wants are at odds with one another. In particular when it appears that their instances may be connected. The trailer, and presumably the film itself, benefits greatly from the chemistry between Brown and Cavill. Helena Bonham Carter will reprise her role as Eudora, the mother of Sherlock and Enola Holmes, and Susie Wokoma will play Edith, a friend of the Holmes siblings, in the upcoming sequel to the film Enola Holmes, based on the novels by Nancy Springer.
Sharon Duncan-Brewster, whose role is presently unknown, and David Thewlis, who plays a police officer familiar with the Holmes family shenanigans, are new cast members this time around. Harry Bradbeer, the director, and Jack Thorne, the screenplay, have returned to Victorian-era London. This time, Bradbeer says, they tried to take Enola out of her comfort zone by centring the plot around girls her age from the working class. As thrilling as the story may seem, fans will have to wait a while longer. On November 4, Netflix will debut the sequel to “Enola Holmes.”
