With Netflix’s TUDUM Event currently underway, a plethora of announcements, updates, and surprises for upcoming Netflix productions have been making their way into the public consciousness. Extraction 2 is a good example of a project that has just been updated with fresh material. A new featurette has been released that delves into the explosive action sequences in the sequel high-octane action picture starring Chris Hemsworth, which is set to be released in 2020. Hemsworth’s character, Tyler Rake, narrates this featurette as we watch the film’s most innovative and eye-popping visuals come to life on the set. You have to tell yourself, ‘It can’t be done at some point. But you don’t shrink from the challenge, instead charging forward into the unknown. A compilation of the places and situations in which Hemsworth engages in combat then begins.
This story takes place in a variety of snowy settings, from an armoured train to a jail riot at midnight. The brief emphasises the film’s new frigid aesthetic by contrasting the sunny and cosy atmosphere of the original with the bleak and chilly tone of the sequel. Sam Hargrave, the film’s director, also makes an appearance and promises that it will surpass its predecessor. If you have the number 2 after your name, people will expect you to do twice as much. He also mentions an owner, or sequence shot in one continuous take, from the previous film and says they’ll be doing something similar but with an even more thrilling setup this time around.
Additionally, he reveals that they successfully landed a helicopter on a moving train. Although we saw some of the work that goes into the action in the future film, Extraction 2’s narrative is still being kept under wraps. The new featurette follows the announcement of Extraction 2’s release timeframe by only a few months. Although the release date for Extraction 2 has not been finalised, it was announced in late July of this year that the picture will debut in 2023 on Netflix. The 2014 graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks serves as inspiration for Extraction. Hemsworth portrayed Tyler Rake, a former Australian special forces man turned mercenary charged with rescuing the abducted son of a crime lord, in Netflix’s 2020 film version of the novel.
Hargrave, who directed his first feature picture, and Joe Russo will return to write the script. Joe and his brother Anthony Russo, who together run the production firm AGBO, will also serve as producers on the picture. While acting in the film, Hemsworth will also play the role of producer. It has been announced that 2023 will see the release of Extraction 2.
