About a month & a half remain till we visit Sicily for Season 2 of The White Lotus. The highly-anticipated return of Mike White’s explosive dramedy will premiere on HBO on Sunday, October 30—just a day before Halloween. Filming for the series concluded just days ago in Sicily’s San Domenico Palace Taormina and in Lumina near Cinecittà . The series will debut on HBO & HBO Max simultaneously. The next season will continue in the same vein as the last, although in a different setting. Guests of the White Lotus will find that the beautiful Sicilian beaches are just as soothing as those in Hawaii. Each week, the social satire will follow a new set of resort regulars as they interact with one another and the resort’s staff.
However, as Season 1 demonstrated, simple leisure is not the point of this programme, since the resort is continually plagued with controversy involving virtually every guest and employee. Season 2’s stellar cast includes (but is not limited to) F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Beatrice Grann, Meghann Fahy, Jon Gries, Tom Hollander, Sabrina Impacciatore, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Aubrey Plaza, Haley Lu Richardson, Will Sharpe, Simona Tabasco, and Leo Woodall. Jennifer Coolidge, who earned an Emmy for her supporting role in Season 1, will be returning to the programme despite the fact that most of the original ensemble from its groundbreaking first season will not be returning for its second. White’s programme received a whopping 20 nominations in that historic first season, including one for Coolidge. Winning Outstanding Limited Series, it bested other heavy hitters including the Michael Keaton-led Dopesick and Pam & Tommy.
The show ended up taking home a total of eleven prizes. White received a lot of praise as well, and he made history by becoming the first ex-Survivor participant to win an Emmy (or three, in his case). In addition to the prize for best-limited series, he also won Emmys for best writing and best direction in a limited or anthology series or movie. Season 2 was again written and directed by White, with David Bernad and Mark Kamine serving as executive producers alongside them.
