Jeff Fahey Joins Kevin Costner’s Western Drama

Filming on Kevin Costner’s western epic Horizon began in Utah last month, and the cast continues to grow in stature with the addition of Jeff Fahey (Lost) to the mix. Deadline is the source of the casting announcement. Even while we know Fahey will be in it, we don’t know much about the role he’ll play just yet. The film, which Costner has called a “passion project,” will investigate the settlement of the American West and its aftermath over the course of 15 years, before, during, and after the American Civil War. The plot will follow the intrigue, hazard, and problems experienced by settlers in the West, from the continual bombardment of natural elements and clashes with indigenous people, to the obstacles that living on the land brought, from the views of a wide variety of characters.

It will shine a light on the grit and brutality of those who ventured West to colonise the land. Currently starring in the Taylor Sheridan neo-Western Yellowstone, Costner is no stranger to Westerns. His directorial debut, 1990’s Dances With Wolves, likewise dealt with the era. This first feature was nominated for 12 Oscars and ended up taking home seven, including Best Picture and Best Director. Since Open Range in 2003, he has not helmed a picture until he begins work on Horizon. Fahey has acted in several productions, and his most recent role was as the show’s main antagonist, Frank Lapidus, on Lost. In addition to Horizon, he has future roles in Tara Pirnia’s romantic comedy Switch Up, which is presently in production, and Robert Rodriguez’s thriller Hypnotic, which is currently in post-production.

He’ll be joining the likes of Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, Michael Rooker, and Isabelle Fuhrman, as well as director Kevin Costner. Horizon is a collaborative effort between Costner and BAFTA nominee Jon Baird, who also serves as a co-writer on the film (Stan & Ollie). Production on Horizon has begun in Utah, and there is presently no estimated release date.
