According to Bloody Disgusting, in October, fans will be able to see a number of vintage Universal Monster flicks thanks to Fathom Events, just in time for the upcoming gloomy holiday season. A pair of double features will be shown in the films for anyone eager to get the shivers on Halloween. On October 1, Fathom Events will screen a double feature of The Bride of Frankenstein and 1932 classic The Mummy, the latter of which served as the basis for the 1999 remake starring Branden Fraser. Both movies feature Boris Karloff and will be shown consecutively at some cinemas.
On October 29, Fathom Events will show two great horror films back-to-back: The Phantom of the Opera (1943) with Claude Rains in full technicolour brilliance, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), widely regarded as the last of the original Universal Monsters. On October 9 and 10, in addition to the legendary Universal Monster flicks, Fathom Events will also be showing Scream 2 in honour of its 25th anniversary. On October 25, theatregoers may also catch BenedictCumberbatch in the National Theater Live presentation of “Frankenstein.”
On October 23 and 27, just in time for the film’s 30th anniversary, audiences will be able to see Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula once more in theatres and be terrified all over again. In addition to being among Universal’s most recognisable works, the original Universal Monsters are horror film canon staples. Last year, Fathom Events screened a double feature of Frankenstein and Dracula, as well as The Wolf Man and The Invisible Man. Now that the second wave of re-releases of classic horror films is hitting theatres, audiences will be able to relive these films in a manner they never have before.
On October 11, the second volume of the Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Collection will be released in beautiful 4K, making it possible for fans who were unable to attend the Fathom Events presentation to own all four films. There will be special showings of the Universal Monster movies at some venues on October 1 and 29.
