This October, horror fans will be treated to an abundance of excellent media. One such example is The Midnight Club, a Netflix series directed by Mike Flanagan that caters to fans of horror literature and young adult terrors. The ghost story draws inspiration from Christopher Pike’s 1994 novel of the same name, as well as previous works by the author. Following the release of a new eerie teaser, the show will make its debut on Netflix on October 7. Many up-and-coming actors star with horror veterans like Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street).
However, Kate Siegel, a mainstay in Flanagan’s films, is not among the cast members. Now we know that Siegel will make a brief appearance in the series, thanks to the famed horror filmmaker. The director of Midnight Club explained to a fan on Twitter why actress Siegel wasn’t in the film because she was busy filming The Time Traveler’s Wife for HBO Max at the same time as Midnight Mass. When asked about Siegel’s appearance, though, he responded, “I can’t wait to see whether people can identify it… Sorry, but you’ll have to wait till it airs on TV. The job is “VERRRRRRRY small- 90% of people will miss it,” Flanagan said in a Twitter conversation with Mike Flanagan Source.
There will be further secret cameos, the filmmaker said in the same post. Any admirer of Flanagan’s work, no matter how little Siegel’s part in the series, should be quite excited about this development. Since the release of Oculus in 2013, Flanagan has established himself as a top horror filmmaker. Hush, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, and Midnight Mass, just to mention a few, are just some of the genre masterpieces he has crafted over the past decade. Flanagan’s career has been greatly aided by Siegel, who is also his wife and has appeared in practically all of his films since Oculus. Even the script for Hush, in which Siegel starred, was a collaborative effort between the two.
Because of her portrayal in Midnight Mass, which is one of the most heartbreaking in the genre’s history, she is widely regarded as one of the most underappreciated actors of our age. Siegel and Flanagan have joined the pantheon of genre greats because of their shared talent. It is understandable that Siegel would not have a significant role in The Midnight Club, as it is Flanagan’s first attempt into the YA category and the ensemble is primarily comprised of outstanding younger talent. It will be entertaining to keep an eye out for her throughout the series, just as it has been for the other unseen apparitions in The Haunting of Hill House.
The Fall of the House of Usher, another Netflix series from Flanagan, will debut in 2023, and Siegel will have a leading role. Horror fans may read Flanagan’s comments and the eerie new teaser for the series down below while they wait for that and Siegel’s appearance in The Midnight Club. Netflix will debut The Midnight Club on October 7.
