The action hero parody Die Hart 2: Die Harter, directed by Kevin Hart, has added John Cena, Ben Schwartz, and Paula Pell to its cast, as reported by Variety. More so, in Season 2, Nathalie Emmanuel will be back to play Jordan King. Season 1 of the show, directed by Eric Appel and written by Tripper Clancy, featured Hart as a self-parodying action hero who prefers not to be the comic relief. Cena will portray the famed stuntman Mr. 206, Schwartz will portray Hart’s helper Andre, and Pell will play Andre’s mother Cynthia. Fans will see Hart’s quest to become history’s greatest action star in the forthcoming season.
Therefore, he comes up with the idea for a groundbreaking film in which even Hart doesn’t know what’s going to happen next. But then Hart learns that he is the target of a malicious vengeance scheme, hatched by someone from his past, and everything goes worse from there. Hart relies on his trusted co-star Jordan, his helper Andre, Andre’s mother Cynthia, and the famed Hollywood stuntman Mr. 206 to help him stay alive. The shoot has officially started in Atlanta. Appel says the new season “feels a lot broader” in terms of its breadth. In addition, “our fictitious version of Kevin Hart is 100 times petty and selfish in his unending drive to become a ‘genuine’ action hero,” as the reviewer put it.
In response to overwhelming demand from viewers, Roku has ordered a second season of Die Hart, making it the first original series to receive a sequel from the streaming service. Roku’s head of scripted originals, Colin Davis, has praised the cast and crew for Season 2, saying, “The set has been filled with constant laughing from this combination of comic talent.” In James Gunn’s Peacemaker, a prequel to DC’s The Suicide Squad, WWE star Cena proved his comic mettle. His other works include F9: The Fast Saga and Vacation Friends. Schwartz is well-known for his role as Tom Haverford on Parks and Recreation, but he has also been on The Afterparty and Space Force.
Pell, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live, has appeared in Girls5eva, AP Bio, and Big Mouth. Hart, together with Jeff Clanagan, Candice Wilson Cherry, Bryan Smiley, Thai Randolph, Mike Stein, Luke Kelly-Clyne, Kevin Healey, and Ty Walker, acts as executive producer of the series under his name Hartbeat media.
Dates for the release of Die Hart 2 have not been announced.
