With this development, HBO’s The White Lotus, which is set in Italy, is one step closer to having its new ensemble of characters (including Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid-Hunt) arrive at the hotel. The comedy-second drama’s season has finished production, according to Deadline. The following volume was shot in part at the San Domenico Palace Taormina on the island of Sicily, and in part at the Cinecittà spinoff studio Lumina. After bringing home numerous victories from their incredible 20 nominations at this year’s Emmy Awards, which were held just last week, it’s safe to say that Mike White’s developed and written series has had a fantastic year.
This acclaimed series beat off Dopesick, The Dropout, Inventing Anna, and Pam & Tommy to win the award for Outstanding Limited Series. While Coolidge won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, her co-star Murray Bartlett won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series. White, who created the series, won accolades for both his writing and directing in the category of Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. It would be a watershed event for his career, but also put him in the annals of Survivor history as the only former competitor to ever win an Emmy.
Season one of The White Lotus followed the employees and visitors of the namesake Hawaiian resort as they dealt with a variety of difficult situations. Fans of the anthology series were so moved by Coolidge’s portrayal of the bereaved heiress that she will be one of two cast members to return. Along with Coolidge’s return, fans can also look forward to seeing Greg (Jon Gries), the man she had a crush on in the first place. You can check out a preview for the upcoming season down below.
Season 2 will be set in Sicily and include a new group of bizarre visitors who want their staff to cater to their every whim, no matter how little. Some of the greatest celebrities in Hollywood, such as Aubrey Plaza, Will Sharpe, F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Michael Imperioli, Meghann Fahy, Theo James, Beatrice Grann, Tom Hollander, Sabrina Impacciatore, Haley Lu Richardson, Simona Tabasco, and Leo Woodall, are all slated to appear in the film. Now that principal photography has wrapped on The White Lotus, look for a deluge of trailers and teasers in the days ahead. No official date has been announced yet, but the series is expected to premiere on HBO in the month of October.
