“Infinity Pool,” a film directed by Brandon Cronenberg, Cast, Release Date & Synopsis

The MPAA was so taken aback by the extreme violence and sexual material in Brandon Cronenberg’s latest science fiction film, Infinity Pool, that it gave it an NC-17 classification. Cronenberg, son of body horror director David Cronenberg, has directed the brutal sci-fi shockers Antiviral and Possessor, so he is no stranger to pushing bounds. Starring Pearl’s Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsgard, Infinity Pool depicts the story of a wealthy couple who spend their holiday in a resort with sinister secrets.

Thomas Kretschmann, Amanda Brugel, Caroline Boulton, John Ralston, Jeff Ricketts, Jalil Lespert, and Roderick Hill all feature in Infinity Pool alongside Goth and Skarsgrd. According to reports, Neon, the film’s distributor, is already intending to appeal the rating to the C.A.R.A. Appeals Board. Blonde, a biopic available on Netflix, was just given the contentious NC-17 rating by the MPAA due to certain sexual material. Netflix currently has no plans to challenge the R rating given to Blonde. Infinity Pool was written and directed by Cronenberg. Rob Cotterill, Karen Harnisch, Andrew Cividino, Noah Segal, Christina Piovesan, and Andrew Cividino are the film’s producers.

In addition to playing the lead role, Skarsgrd also serves as the film’s executive producer. Production for the film began in Croatia in September of 2021 and wrapped up in Hungary. Canada, Hungary, and France all worked together to make Infinity Pool. The film’s two main stars are both riding high at the height of their fame at the moment. A24 has released the theatrical version of Pearl, the prequel to X, starring Goth, who just featured in Ti West’s X. Although Pearl isn’t performing as well commercially as X, it is getting rave reviews thanks in large part to Goth’s performance as the film’s protagonist.

In addition to starring in the forthcoming film Sweet Dreams, Goth will return for the announced third feature in the X trilogy, Maxxxine. Skarsgrd recently appeared in the Viking epic The Northman, which was met with critical acclaim. Skarsgrd has been in several films and television episodes, including True Blood, Big Little Lies, and Godzilla vs. Kong, and he will soon be seen in the upcoming films The Tiger and Eric Larue.
There is currently no set date for the release of Infinity Pool.
