We Were The Lucky Ones on Hulu has added Logan Lerman, who played Percy Jackson, to its cast. The planned show will adapt Georgia Hunter’s novel of the same name, which was published in 2017. The Holocaust survivor Jewish family in this limited series’ eight episodes were cruelly split up during World War 2. In spite of the brutality of the war, the family is holding on to the hope that they will be reunited. Lerman, who was just seen in Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train, will reportedly play Addy, a 25-year-old in the film. He is the family’s middle kid, a natural-born explorer and engineer who also happens to be a highly regarded musician. In other news, Joey King, who was recently seen in The Act, has been cast as a main character in the show.
Thomas Kail, who directed Hamilton, will be taking charge of the production as its director. Although Erica Lipez, who produced and executive produced Bates Motel, is working on a film adaptation of the novel. Of critical importance, Hunter, author of We Were the Lucky Ones, will serve as co-executive producer for the series. Hunter’s discovery that she is a descendant of Holocaust survivors provides the work with a personal connection to the author. She told Variety, “At fifteen, I’ll never forget the day I heard that I hailed from a family of Holocaust survivors.” To find and document my family’s history was a life-altering revelation that took ten years of my life.” She continued, saying that she realised We Were the Lucky Ones had “found its home” when it was given to Kail. “I’m thrilled to be working with him, our fantastic showrunner Erica Lopez, and the talented folks at Old 320, 20th, and Hulu to bring the narrative of my family’s Holocaust experience to the screen.
Despite Hulu’s tight-lipped approach to the programme, it’s safe to assume that it will follow the book’s narrative closely and follow the Kurc family as they try to escape 1939 Europe before the outbreak of war. “Based on an incredible true story that spans from pre-war Parisian jazz clubs to the desolation of the Siberian gulag, and follows the Kurc family as refugees, prisoners, and fighters,” the book’s summary reads. “We Were the Lucky Ones is a testament to the notion that even in the darkest times, the human spirit can find a way to survive, and even triumph.” There is currently no scheduled release date for We Were the Lucky Ones.
