Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, clad in his superhero outfit, sits menacingly on a throne made of black stone in a new image for the film Black Adam. The new image for Black Adam, which comes only one month before the film’s premiere, hints at how the narrative of the antihero, played by Dwayne Johnson’s Teth-Adam, will alter the balance of power in the DC Extended Universe. Teth-Adam is a major foe of Billy Batson / Shazam in the comic comics. Teth-Adam, born into servitude in ancient Egypt, is granted superpowers by the Wizard Shazam and goes on a crusade to right a wrong. Nonetheless, following the death of his family, Teth-hatred Adam drives him to become a merciless antihero and a major adversary of the Justice League as a whole.
In Black Adam, Teth-narrative Adam’s will be retold, and the antihero will cross paths with the Justice Society of America, the comic book equivalent of the Justice League. Since Teth-Adam will come to the present world and challenge everyone who stands in his path, the new billboard declares that “the time of heroes is ended.” Thanks to Warner Bros. Discovery, the DCEU’s future has been radically altered, and the success of Black Adam might pave the way for a slew of new superhero movies. In addition to teasing a showdown between Johnson’s Black Adam and Zachary Levi/Shazaam, the film also teases the introduction of a slew of new heroes to the Justice Society of America.
Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) are the members of the film’s version of the team. The Justice Society of America’s appearance in Black Adam suggests the film takes place before the events of the established DCEU canon, although there are also connections to contemporary characters. Such as Viola Davis’s return as Amanda Waller, leader of Task Force X (or the “Suicide Squad”) in the next film.
Consequently, Johnson’s Teth-Adam may make a future appearance in James Gunn’s section of the DCEU, either in Peacemaker Season 2 or in a spinoff series based on Amanda Waller. When we finally see Black Adam next month and learn about the DCEU’s plans for the future, we’ll have a much better idea of what’s going on. Jaume Collet-Serra helms Black Adam with a screenplay written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. In addition to playing the title character, Johnson also serves as a producer on Black Adam alongside Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, and Dany Garcia.
As of right now, October 21st is pegged as the official release date for Black Adam in cinemas.
