King Arthur’s tale will take place in the year 2024. Several forthcoming Disney films, including Inside Out 2 and a live-action version of Snow White, as well as a new release date for a live-action adaptation of The Haunted Mansion, were just revealed. Mufasa: The Lion King, the computer-animated prequel to the upcoming 2019 remake of The Lion King, has also just received a release date. The new date for the film’s debut in theatres is July 5, 2024. Mufasa: The Lion King’s official release date was recently announced, following the news that the film’s new director, Barry Jenkins, had mentioned a 2024 timeframe at the Disney and Pixar panel at D23.
Jenkins will be taking over the directing duties from Jon Favreau. The once-wide span of a whole year is now shrunk to a single day. Mufasa and his brother Taka, the future Scar, are the focus of the prequel, which will trace the king’s ascent to power. In 2021, Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. were named for the key roles of Mufasa and Taka in the prequel. So that he may carry on his father’s legacy, Simba, now King, wants to learn about his father’s past, and it is said that Timon, Pumbaa, and Rafiki will tell this narrative from their perspective.
The return of Billy Eichner, Seth Rogan, and John Kani from the 2019 picture is unknown at this time. There is no more information on any other actors being cast in the next film at this time other than Pierre and Harrison Jr. Mufasa: The Lion King has Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the script for the 2019 computer-animated rendition of The Lion King, penning it once again. The project will also include Nathanson in the role of producer. Jenkins’s most notable works as a filmmaker are the Oscar-winning Moonlight and the Amazon Prime Video original series The Underground Railroad.
Jenkins has collaborated with the project’s producers before; Mark Ceryak and Adele Romanski both contributed to Jenkins’ previous films The Underground Railroad and Moonlight. Mufasa: The Lion King will have Peter M. Tobyansen (Avatar: The Way of Water) working as a producer. The release date of Mufasa: The Lion King is set for July 5, 2024.
