We must not forget the victims. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story performers hope to make that point very clear in two different interviews. To promote their new show, Niecy Nash and Evan Peters sat down for an interview in which they discussed what it was like to immerse themselves in the world of a vicious serial murderer and to tackle a tale that has brought so much tragedy and grief to so many people’s lives. Nash took on a difficult role as Dahmer’s next-door neighbour Glenda Cleveland. Cleveland, she adds, was another one of Dahmer’s victims who had slipped through the gaps since she had suffered a little physical injury at his hands.
She believes that through performing, more people will learn about Cleveland, the lady who tried to halt Dahmer’s killing rampage but was repeatedly shot by police. Nash makes observations on the mental health issue in America and the treatment of communities by those sworn to serve and protect them, calling the underlying message “timeless.” Peters, for one, wants viewers to know that he and the other creators of the show “don’t need to enhance” the killings by re-creating them “over and over again.”
Peters claims he was “scared” to “dig into” the monster of a man who is believed to have murdered at least 17 people between 1978 and 1991, despite wearing the killer’s distinctive spectacles and psychologically prepared for the part. Monster will bring attention to the horrific acts of one of the most infamous serial killers in American history. The series, as we gathered through talks with the main cast members, would focus on the victims rather than putting a terrible spin on Dahmer’s life.
The movie, which Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan co-created, will join a slew of Netflix originals centred on serial murderers including Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy. With the release of the teaser today, fans got their first look at how actor Evan Peters will play the serial murderer in question. Peters and Murphy have worked together for several seasons on Murphy’s American Horror Story. It will be interesting to watch Nash in a more dramatic character than she has previously taken on, such as in Murphy and Brennan’s Scream Queens. On September 21 at 02:00 PT, you may see Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story on Netflix.
