A new sneak peeks from the forthcoming psychological thriller The Infernal Machine was released today by Paramount Pictures. The protagonist of the film is a bestselling novelist who becomes the focus of a stalker who, over the course of the film, indicates that they may know more than they’re letting on regarding the source of the writer’s ideas. The movie’s scheduled release date of September 23 was also announced by Paramount Pictures, therefore the plot is nearing its premiere. In this clip, Guy Pearce (Mare of Easttown) plays Bruce Cogburn, a writer who comes to a disturbing realisation: he will likely have to come out of hiding because of the backlash he has received for his book, which deals with a mass shooting and whose success may have inspired other readers to do the same.
No one will assist him in identifying the identity of the potentially dangerous individual writing him letters, and the video shows that they are prepared to take their fixation to extreme measures. The footage, titled “answering machine,” displays a scenario in which Bruce enters a room and is confronted by a scary (and detailed) model of a sniper on a roof aiming at multiple victims. Separate from the main room, the author discovers a room plastered with pages from his manuscript and an ancient answering machine that plays a foreboding message. Andrew Hunt, who made his feature picture directing debut with Miles Between Us in 2016, writes and directs the sequel The Infernal Machine.
Hunt, whose short film credits include “Frost Bite” and “String Theory,” makes his feature picture writing debut with this offering. Hunt took the narrative from the episode “The Hilly Earth Society” of The Truth podcast and reworked it for The Infernal Machine. The podcast “offers dramatic short stories that blend superb writing with authentic-feeling performances and rich sound design,” according to the program’s website. Louis Kornfield wrote the script for this episode. In addition to Pearce, the film also stars Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike), Alice Eve (Bombshell), Jeremy Davies (The Black Phone), and Iris Cayatte (Inner Ghosts).
On September 23, The Infernal Machine will have its premiere in select cinemas and on Digital.
