In this brand new scene from Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2, Winnifred (Bette Midler) is having none of her sister’s tricks. To get us ready for the launch of the long-awaited sequel on Disney+, the studio has released a little official trailer from the film that depicts the Sanderson Sisters adjusting to life in the outside world 29 years after they were exiled, again. We can count on these witchy women to cause havoc once again this Halloween.
It’s been over 30 years since we last saw the Sanderson sisters, but now Winnie (Amy Adams), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Mary (Kathy Najimy) have been called back to Salem for bad.
This time, though, it is three high school students who are entrusted with sending the sisters back to the 17th century, and they won’t have an easy time of it. In 2022, Winnie has finally been reunited with Book, the very source of her talents, as hinted at in the official teaser published during D23. Disney released the first look footage from the film just in time for the Halloween season, and it looks like viewers won’t be disappointed. The Sanderson Sisters can’t locate any brooms in the aisles of the supermarket. These witchy women, inspired by the original Hocus Pocus from 1993, will not be deterred by their one misstep of stealing the children’s souls before daylight.
Winnie, on the other hand, finds a broom to charm, while lovably naive Sarah finds a Swiffer and Mary goes high tech with a pair of Roombas. There’s also a rumour going about that the three of them had been tricked before, this time into thinking they imbibed some sort of elixir of life, maybe at the hands of some crafty youngsters. If the trailer is any indication, the sequel will have just as much Halloween spirit and comedy as the first. In just this one clip, all three actresses shine, making it seem as if the Sanderson Sisters were never reduced to ash. Midler easily rejoins her vicious inner circle, and the chemistry between Parker and Najimy is as jaw-dropping as ever.
Hocus Pocus 2 also features the return of Doug Jones as Winnie’s doomed ex Billy Butcherson, as well as the introduction of Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belisa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Paige Henderson, and Nina Kitchen to Sanderson’s Salem. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) is directed from a script by Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics). On September 30th, Disney+ will be the only place to see Hocus Pocus 2.
