Variety claims that Rachel Bloom, actress and co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, will be joining the cast of Julia for Season 2 on HBO Max. The 1st season of the show, which debuted on the site earlier this year, is based on the life of the late, great Julia Child, a celebrity chef who became well known via her appearances on national television. In addition to David Hyde Pierce and Sarah Lancashire (who plays Child), Bloom has been nominated for four Emmys. This film, based on a true event, follows Child as she goes from co-authoring a French cookbook to hosting the first American cooking programme on television. For over 10 years and over two hundred episodes, Child taught American audiences how to prepare authentic French cuisine on her show The French Chef.
Bloom will play Elaine Levitch, a “dynamo” hired by Child and CBS to work on The French Chef. Fans of the Emmy-winning musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend are most certainly already familiar with Bloom’s work. Apart from Robot Chicken and BoJack Horseman, her other credits include the films Trolls 2: World Tour & Chip ‘N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, as well as several television programmes. She’ll be appearing in forthcoming episodes of both the Hulu series Reboot and the Netflix feature The School for Good and Evil.
Lancashire, Hyde Pierce, Bebe Neuwirth, Brittany Bradford, Fran Kranz, and Fiona Glascott are all set to return, and now Bloom will be joining them. Since its debut in March, Julia has been a critical and commercial success. Before the last episode had even aired, the show has already been picked up for a second season. After working on the critically successful Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, creator Daniel Goldfarb was inspired to create this series.
Along with Chris Keyser, who acts as the showrunner, he is an executive producer on the programme. Erwin Stoff of 3 Arts Entertainment, together with Kimberly Carver, Charles McDougall, and Erica Lipez, serve as the show’s other executive producers. The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, which Child founded before her death, employs Todd Schulkin as a consultant producer.
