Deadline reports that Barbara Hershey, who was nominated for an Oscar, has joined the cast of Hank Bedford’s Eugene the Marine. She’ll be playing opposite Nick Nolte, who was cast as the lead last month and has been nominated for three Oscars. Nolte will play the title role in Eugene The Marine. According to reports, the film would follow Gene, a widowed ex-marine whose life unravels after his son insists he sells his property. Frances, a mysterious new character to be played by Hershey, will enter Gene’s life and usher in a new chapter.
The source didn’t reveal any other information about the film’s narrative, but with two Oscar-nominated actors slated to feature opposite each other, Eugene The Marine might be a fascinating picture to look out for when it finally premieres. Bedford, who directed Dixieland, is set to take the wheel once again. Bedford not only serves as the film’s director, but also the film’s co-writer (with Cesare Gagliardoni) of the script for Eugene The Marine. The film is produced by Stephen Vincent, while Concourse Media’s Matthew Shredder is serving as executive producer. Both Hershey and Nolte had important parts in the television series Paradise Lost, in which they had previously worked together.
With her work in The Portrait of a Lady, Hershey was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Later, her performance in the highly acclaimed film Black Swan would bring her much fame. Some fans of the Insidious films, though, may remember her from her role as Lorraine Lambert. Hershey, while not attached to Eugene The Marine, has lately been seen in 9 Bullets, an action thriller picture starring SamWorthington (Avatar) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones). There have been rumours that in addition to his role in Eugene the Marine, Nolte would also participate in Poker Face, a mystery drama series developed by Rian Johnson (Knives Out) and planned to premiere on Peacock later this year.
Blackout, directed by Sam Macaroni, and Rittenhouse Square, directed by Brandon Eric Kamin, are two more films in which Nolte is said to have a major role. There is currently no specific release date for Eugene The Marine since production is still in its early stages.
