Those of us who have devoted years of our lives to watching Supernatural on The CW find solace in the voices of Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki’s Sam Winchester—well, except for pie, pie is always more reassuring. The CW’s Twitter recently published a brief preview for the upcoming Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters, which was like being engulfed in a huge, warm blanket of Dean. The brief film, narrated by Ackles’ demon-hunting persona, immersed viewers in the Winchester family archives while the eldest son detailed the show’s central objective.
Dean tells viewers that they need to “go back to where it all began” to learn “the truth” about the couple they know as John and Mary Winchester from Supernatural, and the teaser takes them there, to 1972, when the couple is the first meeting, and neither of them knows about the danger, trouble, or family that is waiting for them. Even though we’ve been bombarded with posters, teasers, and trailers leading up to the season debut on October 11, we’re never unhappy to get more. The teaser contains a large portion of the major actors, including Ackles’ Dean (who will serve as the series’ narrator), John Winchester (Drake Rodger), Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly), Carlos (Jojo Fleites), and Latika (Nida Khurshid).
Though they aren’t seen in the trailer, Bianca Kajlich and Bridget Regan are integral parts of the ensemble group. The Winchesters is a spinoff of Supernatural that was created by Ackles, his wife Daneel Ackles, and Supernatural alum Robbie Thompson. It will tell the story of John Winchester and Mary Campbell’s beginnings and will feature a number of new characters while remaining faithful to the original series. Although Mary’s family has been in the demon-hunting business for generations, John will find himself drawn to the field after returning from Vietnam in search of his father’s hidden knowledge.
Just a show about sons pining for their dads on different levels! Padalecki’s tremendously busy with his own CW series, Walker, and working as executive producer on its prequel, Walker: Independence, so those hoping for a reunion between Ackles and Padalecki will have to keep waiting. Though, Misha Collins (Castiel) and Ruth Connell (Rowena) are said to be returning to the programme at some time. Everything is conceivable in the Supernatural universe because you never know who could enter a time portal, strike a pact with the devil, or get pulled through a computer.
