Saturday Night Live will soon be back on television. Season 48 will attempt to carry on the show’s long heritage of giving amusement among the craziness of the world by building on the season’s foundation of tremendous turnover, even more, massive world events, and fantastic first-time guests. New episodes will air every week between October 1 and October 15, commencing on the first of the month. The 47th season of the popular sketch comedy had some of the most episodes ever. Despite losing some of its highest-profile actors, including Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Kyle Mooney, the show was able to maintain a high level of quality thanks to a vast cast and some new blood in the writer’s room.
The show’s young cast has kept it afloat for the past three seasons, and as a result, it has been named the Emmy network’s most-watched comedy among adults aged 18 to 49 each of those times. Having famous people as hosts was a high point of the previous season. Although it was great to see Paul Rudd and John Mulaney become members of the show’s elite Five-Timers Club, the season’s standouts were the show’s first-time guests. These included Kim Kardashian, Oscar Isaac, Billie Eilish, Jerrod Carmichael, Zo Kravitz, Natasha Lyonne, and Will Forte.
Though no special guests have been announced for Season 48 as of yet, the programme recently took to Twitter to find out who its audience would want to see appear on future episodes. A number of regulars left after Season 47, therefore Season 48 will have a significantly smaller cast. Heidi Gardner, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, James Austin, Punkie Johnson, Bowen Yang, Michael Che, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Chris Redd, Sherman, and Cecily Strong will all be back under the seasoned leadership of Kenan Thompson. SNL’s original showrunner Lorne Michaels is also returning to his post. Broadway Video is collaborating on the show’s production.
Despite their long histories with the programme, both Thompson and Michaels believe that the series should stop after 50 seasons, or at the very least, that they will retire then. For the time being, though, they are both committed to continuing to work together on comedic projects. Season 48 of SNL details are still forthcoming. This year’s Emmy nominations will be announced tonight, and the variety show will resume on October 1.
