Fans of the MCU were shocked when they saw a brief shot of the Mother of Dragons promoting guns instead of dragon fire in the official trailer for Secret Invasion, which was released by Marvel Studios during the Lucasfilm, Marvel, and 20th Century Fox showcase at Disney’s D23 Expo. Emilia Clarke, well known for her role as Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen on Game of Thrones, recently expressed her delight at joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Emmy-nominated actress posted a trailer for her upcoming Disney+ original miniseries Secret Invasion on Instagram. The show is scheduled to premiere on the streaming giant in the spring of 2023.
In the new series, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of S.H.I.E.L.D., returns to Earth to investigate a conspiracy performed by a gang of renegade Skrulls, the shape-shifting aliens he helped with Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) years ago in Captain Marvel. Since Secret Invasion is still shrouded in mystery, no information about Clarke’s role has been released as of yet. After appearing briefly in the teaser, her character says, “This is just the beginning.” With Olivia Colman, an Oscar winner, joining the cast, anticipation for the enigmatic series continues to rise. Christopher McDonald, Killian Scott, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Carmen Ejogo join Ben Mendelsohn (who reprises his role as Talos) and Cobie Smulders (who returns as Agent Maria Hill) in the action thriller Secret Invasion. Martin Freeman will continue his role as Everett K. Ross from Black Panther, while Don Cheadle will appear as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine in one episode.
Secret Invasion was penned and developed by Kyle Bradstreet, and it is based on a key arc from the Marvel comics. The highly anticipated miniseries was executive produced by Bradstreet, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Victoria Alonso, and Louis D’Esposito. The film’s producers were Sarah Finn and Jason Schwartz, the film’s cinematographer was Remi Adefarasin and the production designer was Frank Walsh. When it debuts in 2023, Disney+ will be the only place to watch Secret Invasions.
