The first film in the Indiana Jones series, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom has never been universally well-received. The film is not as reviled as its predecessor, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but it is also not as well-liked as either Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Last Crusade. Key Huy Quan’s Short Round may be the most memorable part of the first Indiana Jones sequel, which is generally agreed upon to be a success. Quan and his adored costar, Harrison Ford, were reunited at this year’s D23 Expo. Backstage at the D23 Showcase, Ford and Quan posed for two images that were shared on Instagram by Lucasfilm and Quan himself.
The touching photo below, captioned “I love you, Indy. Indiana Jones and Short Round reunited after 38 years,” shows Quan seemingly giving his old pal a bear embrace. While he will always be remembered as the little sidekick to Indiana Jones, Quan has undergone a major career renaissance thanks to the critically acclaimed Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. Due to his casting in both the second season of Loki and the highly anticipated Disney+ series American Born Chinese, Quan made a surprisingly large appearance at the D23 Expo.
A few minutes earlier, Harrison Ford had surprised everyone by showing up at the panel to showcase an exclusive preview for Indiana Jones 5, which made the legendary actor cry. Now that we know that Indiana Jones’s old pal Sallah (Jonathan Rhys Davis) will be appearing in the next film in the series, we can only hope that an adult version of Short Round will also make an unexpected appearance. On June 30, 2023, moviegoers will be able to see Indiana Jones 5 in cinemas.
