As part of this year’s D23 Expo, Disney+ has unveiled the film’s official poster for the forthcoming comedy-romance picture, Prom Pact. The adolescent movie, which takes place during the tense high school prom season, will debut in the spring of 2023 on Disney+. It will be directed by Anya Adams, who has previously helmed episodes of Netflix’s smash Ginny & Georgia and multiple episodes of ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat. Mandy Yang (Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Andi Mack), our heroine in Prom Pact, isn’t as enamoured with the upcoming formal as the rest of her classmates are. However, her plans for the future shift when she gets placed on Harvard’s waitlist. She decides to take matters into her own hands by tutoring popular varsity athlete Graham Lansing (Australian newcomer Blake Draper) in the hopes that he can convince his senator father, a Harvard graduate, to help her be accepted to the school.
Mandy begins to see that there may be more to life than getting into the best university as she gets to know Graham and sees another side to the person she has always loathed. Their “undeniable connection” and the romanticism in the air of high school prom season cause Mandy, a “feminist who doesn’t believe in the notion of falling in love,” to put her college ambitions on hold. Prom Pact just revealed that Margaret Cho, an actress and comedian nominated for an Emmy, will be joining the cast. Her character, Ms Chen, is the snarky and humorous guidance counsellor Mandy visits in an effort to gain perspective on her seemingly impossible college goals. Wendi McLendon-Covey, from The Goldbergs, plays Mandy’s mom, Alyssa, with Jason Lee, Paul Draper, and John Cho. Here we see David S. Jung reuniting with his childhood friend, Dr Doogie Kamealoha.
Lee, who plays Tom, her character’s father, on the set. In addition to Mandy and Ben (Milo Manheim, Z-O-M-B-I-E-S), the adolescent rom-com will star LaToya (Monique Green, I Am the Night), a prominent cheerleader, and Zenobia (Arica Himmel, Mixed-ish), one of Mandy’s best pals (Jason Sakaki, Devil in Ohio). Anthony Lombardo, who also wrote eight episodes of American Housewife for ABC, penned Prom Pact. The movie, which began filming in Vancouver early this year, is executive produced by Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, Julie Bowen, and Rachael Field. The premiere of the Disney+ original series Prom Pact is scheduled for the spring of 2023.
