The sequel to “Inside Out” is now in production, so get ready to deal with your feelings. In 2019, moviegoers will be able to see a follow-up to the 2015 Pixar smash blockbuster that left theatregoers in tears. Kelsey Mann will be directing, and Meg LaFauve will be writing, the sequel. To refresh your memory Inside Out is a film by Pixar and Walt Disney Studios about a little girl named Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) who must deal with a variety of complex emotions after hearing that her parents are relocating to a new place. The film, directed by Pete Docter (Up, Soul), brought viewers along for the ride and into Riley’s head, as her thoughts and feelings fought for dominance.
Audiences observed as Riley (and her parents) learned valuable lessons about expressing and working through a wide range of emotions, from rage to disgust to joy and beyond. Not only did the production have a director who won three Academy Awards helm it, but it also cast some of the most well-known actors in the world as the voices of the animated characters’ many feelings. Joy was performed by Amy Poehler, Sadness by Phyllis Smith, Fear by Bill Hader, Anger by Lewis Black, and Disgust by Mindy Kaling. Richard Kind played Bing Bong, Riley’s made-up friend, while Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan played his parents.
In fact, the entire movie is filled with soundbites from celebrities including Rashida Jones, Paula Poundstone, Bobby Moynihan, Paula Pell, Frank Oz, and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It would be a huge understatement to call it a star-studded occasion. As details about the narrative of the sequel continue to trickle out, it appears that Poehler will be back to manage her emotion, although speculations persist that Hader and Kaling may not be returning to their roles as Fear and Disgust.
That has left us feeling really sentimental. As expected, D23 organisers have decided to keep the status of the project under wraps for the time being. The critical and commercial success of Pixar’s Inside Out resulted in the film being nominated for two Academy Awards and ultimately taking home the trophy for Best Animated Feature. Professionals in the field of psychology hailed the film as a triumph for elevating the topic of how we as humans process our emotions into the spotlight. Expect a sequel, Inside Out 2, in 2024.
