Feel the rhythm in this preview for the Spanish-language comedy Love & Mathematics (Amor y matemáticas), written and directed by Claudia Sainte-Luce. The lady who brought us the dramedy The Amazing Catfish in 2013 is back with her fifth movie, also guaranteed to make viewers laugh and feel hopeful. Written by playwright and author Adriana Pelusi, this is Sainte-first Luce’s feature film in which she does not also serve as a screenwriter.
The young star-turned-suburbanite Billy Lozano is the protagonist of a Mexican comedy that delves into finding one’s footing again while remaking oneself for future success (Roberto Quijano). He became famous as a member of a popular boy band when he was young, but his life took a turn when the band’s popularity suddenly faded.
He is now in his thirties. Billy isn’t happy with his current situation, which includes being a husband, a parent, and a co-owner of his wife’s (Daniela Salinas) prize possession: a disobedient lap dog. The preview shows that Billy wants to make it big again in show business, but no one takes him seriously when he pitches his ideas or songs to them. But a superfan of his previous band named Monica is about to come into the singer-life, and the songwriter’s convinced that he can achieve fame and money all over again (Diana Bovio).
Billy learns that there is hope for his stagnant work and, by extension, his life when he meets his new next-door neighbour. The Love & Mathematics trailer strikes a chord with anybody who has ever felt a bit lost. Sainte-latest Luce’s film, which features dry humour and a familiar tale, looks like it will be a moving look at one man’s battle to rediscover his joy in life. The world premiere of the feature film will take place at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Contemporary World Cinema section.
The director’s last movie, the coming-of-age drama The Realm of God, premiered at the Berlinale Film Festival in February, and now her latest film, Love & Mathematics, will have its world premiere at a major international film festival later this year.
