A new deleted scene featuring Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Zeus (Russell Crowe), and Jane (Cate Blanchett) has been unveiled via an exclusive from People Magazine ahead of the release of Thor: Love and Thunder on Disney+ and other digital channels this week (Natalie Portman). What ends up being an emotional moment between Thor and Jane at the hospital is depicted in the deleted scene, albeit in a different context. But their discussion is cut short when they see Zeus himself standing behind the curtain, licking an ice cream cone. This Zeus is affected by Thor’s emotional side and wants to help, saying he has something for the God of Thunder, in contrast to the Zeus viewers would see in the final cut of the film. As it stands, fans have no idea what Zeus had planned for Thor in the cut scene. While the mythical Thunderbolt was taken from Thor in the movie, some have speculated that the Greek deity was supposed to gift it to him.
Also, the deleted sequence shows a different side of Crowe’s depiction of Zeus, who was shown in the film’s final cut to be more haughty and spiteful toward the protagonists, by making him more empathetic and understanding. Perhaps the version of Zeus that audiences saw in theatres was better, though, because it hinted at a fabled clash between Hercules and the eponymous hero. Given how drastically Zeus’ persona was altered in that little sequence, it’s unclear if there are any additional unseen alternate takes on the god.
IGN also shared a funny longer look at Russell Beale (Penny Dreadful) as Dionysus, another Greek deity, along with the alternative take on Zeus’ persona.
Previous reports indicated that the inclusion of numerous other major characters, including Jeff Goldblum’s return as The Grandmaster and the entrance of Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) in an unidentified capacity, had been scrapped. It is unclear, however, if other Thor: Love and Thunder outtakes will ever see the light of day. When Thor: Love and Thunder arrives on Disney+ on September 8, fans will be able to watch the film, again and again, reliving all of their favourite moments. The film Thor: Love and Thunder will first appear on the streaming site on September 27, and then fans may buy it on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD the following week.
