The Worldwide Box Office for ‘Nope’ Has Now Exceeded $150 Million

Nope, Jordan Peele’s amazing third feature continues to pull audiences to the theatres despite a disheartening fall in American box office results as summer winds down. The iconic science fiction thriller directed by the modern horror classic has earned over $159 million at the international box office, surpassing the $150 million mark this week. Fans of the genre and Peele devotees have kept the intriguing UFO narrative in the spotlight since its late July release by drawing comparisons to Peele’s earlier triumphs, such as 2017’s smash Get Out and 2019’s terrifying Us.

The latest picture from the director, writer, and producer was a smashing success at home, and when it began rolling out in foreign markets, its earnings grew in tandem with its growing international fan base. And as Top Gun: Maverick continues to dominate the movie office and set records, the enigmatic film Nope is still doing rather well. After working together in getting Out, Jordan Peele and Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah, Queen & Slim) are reuniting for Nope. He co-stars with Keke Palmer (Alice, Hustlers) as OJ and Em Haywood, a brother-sister team of Hollywood horse trainers who are caught off guard by a horrific event that seems to come straight out of the sky and pelt their ranch and the town below.

When they run across Ricky ‘Jupe’ Park, the proprietor of an adjacent Old West theme park and former child star, played by Oscar candidate Steven Yeun (Okja, The Walking Dead), things take a rather unnatural turn. In addition to Kaluuya, Palmer, and Yeun in lead roles, Nope also has an A-list ensemble cast that includes Michael Wincott, Brandon Perea, Barbie Ferreira, Terry Notary, Donna Mills, Jennifer Lafleur, Sophia Coto, and Keith David. Nope, produced by Ian Cooper and Peele for Monkeypaw Productions, has done well since its July 22 debut, and it has now become available on video on demand (VOD) with an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critic Ross Bonaime rated Nope an “A-” and called it “yet another amazing narrative” by Peele. Indeed, in addition to its more recent distribution throughout the world, Nope is still playing in cinemas across the United States.
