Biosphere, the first feature-length film from Academy Award-winning producer Mel Eslyn, will make its global premiere at the 47th annual Toronto International Film Festival in 2022 as a surprise presentation, it was revealed today. On September 10 at 2:30 pm, the world premiere of the film will take place. To coincide with the news, a brand-new first-look photo of the film’s two leads was unveiled. The events of the Biosphere take place in the future inside the eponymous building. Mark Duplass and Sterling K. Brown star as the final two men on Earth, who must learn to change with the times in order to rescue civilization.
The film’s two main characters, played by Duplass and Brown, may be seen in a first peek photo standing together within the Biosphere. Although this image doesn’t tell us anything that we don’t already know, it is wonderful to have a glance at the film before its release next weekend. Eslyn has been president of Duplass Brothers Productions for many years and has produced many of the company’s most successful films and TV shows, such as Room 104, The Lady and the Dale, 7 Days (which won the Indie Spirit Award), The One I Love, and Language Lessons. She worked with the late Lynn Shelton and produced several of her films, such as Your Sister’s Sister and Outside In.
This year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will feature the world premieres of a large number of films, including Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, based on the life of the titular parody music artist and starring Daniel Radcliffe, and Glass Onion, the sequel to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out. Biosphere marked Eslyn’s directing debut; she also collaborated with Duplass on the film’s script. Together with Mark’s brother, Jay Duplass, they take on the role of executive producers. Eslyn, Zackary Drucker, Maddie Buis, and Shuli Harel are all serving as producers on future endeavours. Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF, is excited about the thrill that Biosphere will provide to Toronto viewers.
The bravery and originality of the film that Mel Eslyn, Mark Duplass, and Sterling K. Brown have made are breathtaking. The thing can’t be explained unless it’s seen. Tickets for the special screening event of Biosphere, which will premiere at the 2022 TIFF on September 10 at 2:30 pm, will go on sale to TIFF Members on September 3 and to the general public on September 5.
