After playing Weed on Hacks, Laurie Metcalf won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. The September 4 Creative Arts Emmys were where the honour was presented. Metcalf received his tenth nomination for an award and his fourth victory.
Jane Adams, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Kaitlin Olson were all nominated for their guest roles on Hacks, and they weren’t the only ones.
Jane Lynch, for Only Murders in the Building, and Harriet Walter, for Ted Lasso, were both nominated for the prize. In addition to her many film and television roles, Metcalf is a legend in the theatre world. During the early 1990s, she received three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Jackie on the smash ABC comedy series Roseanne. In 2018, she came back for another season of The Connors.
She was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Ladybird in Greta Gerwig’s film that same year. She made her acting debut in Ray Romano’s Somewhere in Queens. Deborah (Jean Smart) in Season 2 of Hacks took her new comedy act on the road with the help of her writer (Hannah Einbinder). Metcalf portrayed Weed, Deborah’s road manager. This past weekend, the Creative Arts Emmys were presented at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles over the course of two nights. The event will be condensed into one show and shown on FXX on September 10 in advance of the Primetime Emmys on September 12.
