The first trailer for the forthcoming Iranian drama Beyond the Wall, directed by Vahid Jalilvand, has been published. The new picture from the Oscar winner will have its world debut in the festival’s competitive section. The deadline was the first to debut the new trailer, which effectively conveys the film’s mounting tension. In the forthcoming drama film, Navid Mohammadzadeh plays a guy named Ali who reunites with filmmaker Jiayi Jalilvand after Mohammadzadeh received the Horizon’s Best Actor Award in Jalilvand’s 2017 film No Date, No Signature.
The introduction of the trailer depicts Ali, a blind guy in Iran, attempting suicide. However, his suicide attempt is stopped when the building’s concierge visits him to advise him that he should be on the lookout for a lady named Leila who was present at a workers’ demonstration that went out of hand and is sought for the killing of an officer. As we see in the preview, Ali becomes emotionally attached to Leila after discovering that she has been staying at his flat.
The teaser depicts their budding friendship culminating in a life-or-death struggle within Ali’s cramped apartment while under fire from attackers outside his door. Jalilvand’s previous two feature films, No Date, No Signature (2017) and Wednesday, May 9, (2015), both premiered in the Horizons section of the festival. Beyond the Wall is his third feature film. The film Wednesday, May 9 was awarded the Fipresci prize, while No Date, No Signature went on to see Jalilvand win Best Director at the Horizon Awards and Mohammadzadeh win Best Actor. Dayana Habibi, making her cinematic debut as the fugitive lady Leila, will be joined by Amir Aghaee and Mohammadzadeh in the film.
The film’s international debut will take place at Venice, followed by its world premiere in Toronto’s Contemporary World Cinema programme. The film was produced by Ali Jalilvand, the director’s brother, with worldwide distribution handled by The Match Factory. The 79th Venice Film Festival, which began on August 31 and runs through September 10, will be the world debut of Beyond the Wall in competition.
