The stunning new teaser for Netflix’s upcoming science fiction series The Imperfects features three unique “guinea pigs” who vow to “strike back” at those who have harmed their humanity and will soon jeopardise others’. Shelley Eriksen and Dennis Heaton, who also worked on the cancelled Netflix supernatural series The Order, developed, wrote, and executive produced The Imperfects. The show centres on a group of young adults who were subjected to medical testing without their knowledge or permission.
Due to these experiments, the young people are endowed with the talents and capabilities of three creatures from popular and folklore: a Banshee, a Chupacabra, and a Succubus. In the very first scene, we see the morally ambiguous Dr Sarkov (Rhys Nicholson) examining Juan (Iaki Godoy), who is obviously having peculiar issues as a result of Dr Sarkov’s studies. Not everyone is like him, though.
All of Sarkov’s test subjects, including Juan, Abbi (Rhianna Jagpal), and Tilda (Morgan Taylor Campbell), are in their twenties, and they have all had “unfortunate side effects.” The trailer then proceeds to introduce each of them individually before showing brief clips of their unique abilities, such as the Banshee’s scream or the Succubus’s allure. Despite being forced into the role of “guinea pigs,” it soon becomes clear that the three friends have no intention of taking it lying down. Chad Oakes and Michael Frislev of Nomadic Pictures, who also executive produced Eriksen and Heaton’s former series The Order, are also involved in the production as producers. Italia Ricci, Kyra Zagorsky, and Celina Martin also star in the film. A 10-episode season of The Imperfects, each lasting around one hour will debut on Netflix on September 8.
Synopsis
The plot follows three young adults (aged twenty-something) who, after undergoing an experimental gene treatment, find themselves transformed into monstrosities and form an alliance to track down and kill the doctor responsible for their transformation so that they can be reverted back to normal. Abbi, Juan, and Tilda enlist the help of Dr Sydney Burke, a bright scientist who is determined to make up for her professional and ethical transgressions.
A previous child prodigy, Dr Alex Sarkov is now set on rewriting the human genome and ushering in the next stage of human development, and he is not going to let anything or anybody stand in his way.
