No matter what happens, Woodsboro just can’t catch a break. In any case, nobody seems to mind. Production on Scream 6, the sixth film in the slasher franchise based on the original Wes Craven film, has wrapped. The cast and crew of Scream 6 thanked producer Ron Lynch for shooting on the Blackmore Productions set in an Instagram post after production wrapped. The surviving survivors of the Ghostface killings will soon depart Woodsboro for a new life in New York City, and with them will go the future film, now named Scream 6.
They move to New York to start a new chapter, but things don’t go as planned because Ghostface keeps killing people and follows them there. Former Gale Weathers played by Courtney Cox in the Scream films teased fans on her Instagram account, writing, “Does this B***H ever get tired?” after revealing she had wrapped production on the sequel. Despite the good news that Neve Campbell will be back as Sidney Prescott (the notorious last girl), she has revealed that she will not be returning since the deal provided to her “did not match the value” she has contributed to the Scream franchise. Cast members from Scream 5 such as Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Melissa Barrera (Keep Breathing), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), and Mason Gooding will be back for the sequel, which will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Fall).
An all-star cast has been unveiled for the next slasher film, including Samara Weaving, Liana Liberato, Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, Devyn Nekoda, and Dermot Mulroney. After receiving a 76 per cent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the $140 million that Scream 5 made off of a budget of under $24 million cemented the film’s place as a fan and reviewer favourite. The continued financial success of the iconic horror franchise is proof that even if Craven is no longer here to keep us happy with his horror films, his works live on. On March 31, 2023, fans will hopefully be terrified by Scream 6.
