The Worldwide Total for ‘Elvis’ at the Box Office Has Now Surpassed $276 Million

Elvis, the Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic about Elvis Presley, has been a huge financial success. The film’s worldwide total now stands at $276.7 million after taking in another $1.9 million at the box office abroad. Over the course of the weekend, Elvis earned an additional $1.9 million from 64 markets across the world. As a result, Elvis has earned a grand total of $129.3 million from international markets, or around 46% of the picture’s overall revenue; this places it as the 11th highest-grossing film of the year between The Bad Guys ($149 million) and Lightyear ($107 million) in terms of the international box office. A huge financial success for Warner Bros. since its June debut, Elvis continues to be a box office phenomenon.

Elvis, which only cost $85 million to make, is the 11th highest-grossing film of the year so far and is sandwiched between Uncharted ($401 million) and The Bad Guys ($245 million), despite both films having far higher budgets. This announcement arrives not long after Elivs’ VOD debut, but less than a week ahead of the film’s September 2 HBO Max debut, as well as its September 13 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD debuts. Luhrmann’s Hollywood career began as an actor in the 1980s, yet despite this, his most recent directorial picture, Elvis, is one of his biggest triumphs. Luhrmann’s 2013 rendition of The Great Gatsby made $144 million at the domestic box office, but Elvis ($146 million) recently overtook it, becoming the director’s highest-grossing film to date.

However, it still has a long way to go before it will reach The Great Gatsby’s worldwide revenue of $353M. It’s true that there’s been a rise in the number of musical biopics, but Elvis’s success at the box office has allowed it to stand out. After the Queen biography Bohemian Rhapsody ($903 million), this is the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time. Its closest competitor is Straight Outta Compton (2015), which made $201 million.

Elvis, written by Baz Luhrmann and Jeremy Doner, relates the life of Elvis Presley but does it through the eyes of Colonel Tom Parker. The film follows Presley and Parker through their relationship and the ups and downs of Presley’s life and career. Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge, Helen Thompson, and Richard Roxburgh are among the cast of this picture.
The movie “Elvis” may still be seen in cinemas and via video-on-demand services.
